Interview with Holistic Lifestyle expert - Janey Lee Grace

(Q)Please tell us about your background and how did you get started into health and fitness industry?
I was a singer in various bands including backing vocals for Wham! so eating the usual junk food touring etc, I got a wake up call when I had pre cancerous cervical cells, it made me look at everything from contraception, supplementation, chemicals, nutrition to spirituality. I started to live differently and years later because of talking about my 'holistic' lifestyle on Steve Wright in the afternoon I was offered a book deal, My first book 'Imperfectly Natural Woman' was a number one amazon best seller.
(Q)How do you keep yourself healthy and fit?
I make sure I consume 'living foods' in high quantities, the easiest and nicest way to do this is to juice daily - start the day with a big 'shrek green' smoothie. I walk a lot, do yoga and Nia - a form of holistic dance.
(Q)Please tell us about your normal diet. How do you eat to stay in shape?
My diet is veggie but occasionally I eat fish. I aim for unprocessed foods as much as poss, I try and do exercise of some sort every day even if only a short walk. (Ex. Generally what you eat in Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc.)
I have a smoothie for breakfast and sneak in wheatgrass, omega 3 oils and chlorella (superfoods are important but I don't want to take loads of supplements) I eat huge salads with advocado, sun dried toms and perhaps grains or bread for lunch and dinner is often fresh fish with veg or salads. I'm 'imperfect' tho, I'll often have a yummy dessert and cappucino.!
(Q)How do you motivate yourself to get/stay in shape?
I used to be the original couch potato until I heard a Christopher Reeve tape, he was addressing the USA's obesity 'victims' and saying ...if you have the ability to move and don't use it - its an insult to those of us that don't have that luxury' It really made me think, now I move my body every single day even if its only a 20 min walk or bouncing on my rebounder (mini trampoline) for 10 mins
(Q)What according to you are the three most important tips for weight loss?
Concentrate on eating the right fuel to 'power' your body Ask yourself - if I didn't know what time I last ate - how hungry would I be ? In other words don't eat cos its 'time' - only to meet a genuine hunger Choose living foods, make at least 51 per cent of every meal raw and the weight will stabilise.
(Q)What are the biggest mistakes people make when trying to lose weight?
going on a fad diet, feeling miserable and then binging when its all over.
(Q)Message or advise for our Obesity Campaign readers who wants to lose weight in a healthy way.
The answer lies in fruit and veg.
